HOW THE DENTAL IMPLANT PROCESS WORKS

  • Initial Consultation

    Your dentist will examine your surrounding teeth, gums, and bone and evaluate the area to see if dental implants would be a recommended solution for you. If another tooth replacement option would be a better solution for your situation, they will discuss this with you and be able to answer questions you may have.

  • We Provide a Personalized treatment plan

    We review everything with you, including finances and the general timeline, so you can rest assured knowing you understand the process.

  • Oral Surgery Treatment

    Many times your dentist at Sparrow Dental can place your implant for you, but other times you may be referred to a trusted colleague for the surgical part of the implant process. During the process, your dentist will make an opening in your gums, and place a titanium screw-shaped implant into your jawbone. The area will then be cleaned and have stitches placed over the top to start the healing process.

  • Healing

    Most patients' gums heal completely after 2-3 weeks from the surgery. The implant then “osseointegrates” into the bone, taking anywhere around 3-6 months after surgery. This is typically the longest part of the process, where the bone cells are attaching and locking onto the implant for strength.

  • A Prosthetic is Created

    Following your implant healing into the bone, you will return for an impression of your mouth and implant location, which will be sent to our high quality lab for fabrication of your brand new implant crown, bridge, or arch of teeth.

  • The Implant is Applied

    Once your custom implant returns from our lab, we inspect it in your mouth to confirm everything looks great. We then secure it into place and it is ready to be used!

  • Aftercare

    Dental implants can be a great and long-lasting option for many patients! Dental implants benefit like your other teeth with continuing to stay on top of brushing at least twice a day, flossing, and going in for your routine cleaning and exams every six months.

  • This is the most commonly used implant in dentistry. It is made up of the “screw” portion, which is made of titanium and placed into the jawbone. You can think of this as “the root” part of the implant. The second main component of an implant is the abutment and crown, which is the part of the implant that is seen above the gums, thought of as “the tooth” part of the implant.

  • This is when multiple implants are placed into the jawbone, and then used to secure either a bridge or arch of teeth. The arch of teeth can either be removable (overdenture) or fixed (bridge or hybrid denture). Treatment options may differ for patients depending on certain factors, which can be discussed with your provider when you work together in determining the best course of treatment for your individual goals.
